hi everyone! so i have the option 'adjust keyboard backlight in low light' turned on but it seems not to be working... i bought my macbook not that long ago (4 months). there is a little bit of trash built up under the keys so is that why the backlight isn't adjusting in low light? or is it anything else??

Does this issue occur in another user account? Test to verify as this can isolate the issue and let us know if this is a setting or something else on your user account causing this. You can read how to do this here:

Thanks for connecting with Apple Support Communities. To clarify, are these the only keys that are not responding on your keyboard?
If so, cleaning the keyboard can be very beneficial. This resource can guide you: How to clean the keyboard of your MacBook or MacBook Pro
Also, you can open the Control Center, click Keyboard Brightness, then drag the slider to adjust the keyboard backlighting as well.
