Upgrading operating system

Laptop currently has Sierra and I’m trying to upgrade but there’s not enough memory. Can you add memory to a 2017 macbook air? How much does it cost? It currently has 8 gb

It's referring to disk space, not RAM. Click here and follow the instructions.

If it matters, the actual RAM requirement is 2GB, and it isn't upgradable on a MacBook Air.

RAM may be Soldered In:

In a 2017 MacBook Air, all items are soldered in the LogicBoard. So, upgrading it is not an option, as everything is created to interact as one. So, clear items that are unnecessary such as MoviesTV ShowsVirtual Machines, etc. These can be in the GBs of data. And ridding of them would open lots of room.
