Confused by sharing folder

So the public and the shared folders are useful only for people who log onto my computer? It isn't obvious to me what the differences are. I did a "Get Info" on my public folder and saw it is "fetching" a user.

Is there any way to determine who it is trying to fetch? Or should I just delete that name?

Interesting, I have played with that before. This time, I went to a containing folder and went to "Sharing and Permissions". I couldn't apply that change to enclosed items, so I added and subtracted a user. Now I could apply that change. That worked. Until I copied the files again. I will contact the software that I use to copy the data.

It's actually the Music folder in my last test. I've also done it with the folder with her user name on it (is that the home folder?) and that worked too. But ChronoSync is set up to synchronize my Music folder to hers (it also contains my karaoke library).

Hmm, I just tried dragging a folder from my Mac to her Mac's Downloads directory but failed. But I copied it to a different folder that she has specifically shared with me.

I keep having that issue. I wonder if there's a way to eliminate that phantom user altogether.

The check box was always unlocked when I looked at it. Occasionally that check box was greyed out though.
