Can you use a 2008 20" iMac as a monitor for a 2020 MacBook Pro M1?

There is a 2008 20" iMac running osx El Capitan and I am curious if my 2020 MacBook Pro M1 would be able to hook up to this so I can use the iMac as a monitor.


I am not very tech savvy so please explain as best as possible.

The very limited software and harder requirements for Target Display Mode are laid out in this Apple support article:


Use your iMac as a display with target display mode - Apple Support


As you can see, the iMac is too olde and the M1 Macbook Pro is too new.
