Time Machine Back Ups

After upgrading to a newer MB Pro running Big Sur my backups fail and the message is: Time machine couldn't back up to "Time Machine Back-Up. Two of the disks have the same name. Rename one of the disks names Macintosh HD - Data". = What is the proper way to correct this issue?

MacBook Pro 13″, macOS 11.6

Hello blivolsi,

This page here will help with how to rename items, such as disks, on the Mac: Rename files, folders, and disks on Mac - Apple Support

You may head to Disk Utility (Finder > Applications > Utilities), and check to see if there are indeed two drives with the same name of 'Macintosh HD - Data'. If so, you can right-click/Control-click one and choose rename. If the Macintosh HD volumes here have different names, it may still help to try renaming one of them there.

Cheers.
