Mac Studio Storage

Can Apple still upgrade my Mac Studio storage after I have already purchased?

And no I am not talking about me opening it up and changing it myself. No I’m not talking about external storage. I’m talking about my base model max studio and taking it back to Apple and have them reconfigure/upgrade my storage.

Perhaps: Ask an Apple Store retail Genius staff ~IF there's

an internal storage upgrade for Apple Studio computer.

Most (to all) say there's Not. Even 'fix-it sites' said no.

Speculatively some said Yah ~ back in March 2022.

• Genius Bar Reservation and Apple Support Options - Apple

However that seems rather unlikely. Great workaround:

4.0TB OWC Envoy Pro SX Thunderbolt Portable NVMe SSD

to use OWC Envoy external enclosure w/ SSD inside;

their premium series; & use their fast USB-4 TB cables.

.Maybe this direction is best, short of factory upgrade.

Human-sized timemachine could take you & mac back.

Read my reply again and allow credit.

That was spelled-out:

.My replies have many researched pages,

most unused; due to lack of 'online' time.

(Metaphorically speaking, there's little argument.)

..ikrupp..

With extra costs and waiting time, to return/order another

was out of the question. ~ Given research, gave one clear

answer: external storage that also can run Mac clone..

Seems I've covered my **.

Even so, I learned after a few weeks trying to fix a Mac

ordered with extended warranty, in AK (2003) and tried

where no Apple stores then existed; and only one now.

A unrepairable non-returnable iMac G4 from Apple in Ca.

There was only me, on dial-up. And 400 repaired Macs

out in the shed/workshop; salvaged, restored, donated.

I've been at this awhile. ~ And am running out of time.

Thus reason why mention to use 'human' timemachine.

[Also I've had some terrible comment posts to me here.

I've figured how to raise the bar to get them removed.]

And is relevant to the overall thread topic involved here.

I had the same question and contacted Apple. I hadn't received my Mac Studio and wondered if I could upgrade the storage before it shipped. They said I could, but it would mean going to the back of the queue as each Mac was built to spec. I decided, in the end, to go with the LaCie d2 8TB external drive (on the Apple Store). It took a few goes to get the firmware update it needed past security, but it's working like a treat now. I'm only using it for storage. For capturing and storing video whilst editing, I will use the now almost empty 2TB SSD I have in the Mac Studio.

Let’s not beat around the bush with what-ifs and maybes. The answer is an unequivocal NO, the Mac Studio storage cannot be upgraded after delivery, period. Tech nerds got all excited when it was discovered that Mac Studio storage was slotted and not soldered to the SOC like other M1 Macs. Experiments where performed and it was discovered that even swapping the memory modules from other Mac Studios didn’t work. Apple has not indicated in the least bit that storage can be upgraded at a later date.

Bottom line, order a Mac Studio with the storage you need, spend what you need to get it, and forget about adding storage later except for external storage in the form of HDDs or SSDs.

Sorry if my response sounded accusatory, it was not mean t to be. Users need to be told clearly, without speculation or theories, possibilities, etc. The same goes for questions about running Boot Camp on an M1 Mac. The answer is NO. There are often comments about an ARM version of Windows when Microsoft has not released or even talked about a release of such.

But you get my drift and please accept my apology.
