New Mac Mini - how to transfer data

I have a new Mac Mini and I want to transfer the data from my old one. Is there a way to so it so programs transfer too? I did ask this question previously and came back to review the answer, but despite being a member here since the late 1990s but since about 4 years ago every time I log in all my data is gone and it treats me as a new member.

So please be kind and don't think I am rude if you are the person who kindly steered me to the Apple how to do it before.
