When I plug the headphone jack into my iphone 8 the sound still comes out of the speakers instead of the headphone. What am I doing wrong?

Start here:
If your headphones don‘t work with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch
If no help, try this:
1) Open the Control Center
2) Long press on the music controls
3) Select the output option (little up-arrow with circles)
4) Select headphones
