Hi,
If you are running iOS 11, you would need to update your iPhone before attempting to update or resolve any issues with applications, or otherwise, on the device. This is due to running an extremely outdated software version; it can be considered expected behavior if you are having issues with your apps, or updating those apps, as they are not compatible with your software version. Apps regularly update with each iOS update.
To update your iPhone, go to Settings > General > Software Update > Download and Install.
