Before the latest software upgrade, Focus would basically mute my phone with a single setting. Now it seems so complicated I can't even figure it out, much less set it.
Is there are simple way to get it to work like it did before?

It sounds like you're possibly referring to Do Not Disturb, the older version that existed in iOS 14. And yes, there are differences between DND and Focus, mostly for the better if you take the time to learn how it works.
But, if you want to try to simplify it as much as possible, try this:
Go to Settings>Focus. Tap on each of the Focus profiles (e.g. Driving, Meeting, Sleep, Work) except Do Not Disturb. Go down to the bottom of each one and tap "Delete Focus". That will leave you with just Do Not Disturb. You can turn it on or off right from the Control Center with a tap.

Focus hasn't really changed that much since iOS 15. Yes, it has added some new features but there's no reason you can't use it exactly as you did before. What specific problems are you having?

I don’t think I understand your instructions. Instead of sliding up on my old iPhone to turn on focus, now I have to go into settings then control center? I’m confused. I just don’t want my phone to make any noise at night.
If you swipe down diagonally from the right corner, the control center will open. Tap "Focus" and then tap "Do No Disturb" and your phone will be silenced until you tap "Do No Disturb" again to turn it off.

It always makes me happy when someone takes something I explained to them and goes on to help someone else with it! That's the best thanks I can get.
I used to open it and simply slide a button to turn it on. Now I get a screen with seemingly a zillion options to create a custom setting. Where do i find that simple slide on-button now?
