Not able to send messages via iMac

Hi, I have no problem messaging someone from my iPhone 12pro but for some reason my 2021 iMac is constantly giving me the "not delivered" response. Just to be clear, I am unable to message someone with an android phone via my 2021 iMac but have no problem doing so on my iPhone. Why is that?
