You need some protection from direct attacks by malware.


That is why Apple has already built MANY different kinds of protections into your Mac, and provided them to you for free.


The idea that some third-party, with no special knowledge of how Macs work internally, can somehow come along and do better than Apple is laughable. Apple is NOT 'holding out on you' -- they provide the tools you need to protect you computer. BUT -- you MUST do the things Neil suggested!


In addition, do not click in ANY links in emails, ever. Always RE-type the name of the site you intend to visit, and look up any phone numbers anyone EVER suggests you call, and never provide personally-identifiable information to a voice on the phone unless YOU initiated the call.
