The exact method depends on the app.

For Apple apps such as Time Machine there is typically an option for that app in System Preferences.

For 3rd party apps there may be an option available in Preference in the app icon on the menu bar or you may have to open the app and look for an option there.

Thank you for your prompt reply. It is a 3rd party app (Malwarebytes) that started to appear in the menu bar after a difficult week trying to solve a problem with Safari bouncing continuously. Ultimately, creating a new user, eliminating the original user, solved that problem. Of course, other issues popped up including this one, most are under control. I will check Preferences in the app and see if there is a solution.
