iPhone setup while traveling with pocket wifi in Japan
I'm going to be traveling to Japan and will have a pocket wifi and iPhone 11. I want to text and email and in an emergency make voice calls. How should I setup my phone?

Check with your carrier for their international roaming plans. Also enable your phone for Wi-Fi calling if it isn’t already, to use with the pocket Wi-Fi.
Let me expand on that a little. AT&T International Daypass is a feature you sign up for before you go. It essentially extends your home calling plan (talk, text and data) to wherever you are traveling. If you don’t use it then it doesn’t cost anything. If you do use it you pay $10 for any day when you use data, text or make a call, with a maximum of $100 per billing period. So it’s a good fallback plan, as if you don’t use it you don’t pay for it.
Thanks for the quick reply. So with my pocket wifi and enabling wifi calling I'll be able to make voice calls without AT&T charges? Why would I need international roaming if I will be on wifi?
If you are always going to have Wi-Fi you don’t need International roaming. But AT&T has attractive roaming plans.
Thanks for the info…much appreciated🙂🙂🙂
