How do I change my Apple ID. Getting message: Cannot change to email not associated with account. Had created an alias email for this purpose. still not working.

Change Apple ID email address Can I change my Apple ID/Apple ID email address because I do not like it because it was an impulse creation because I thought I would be able to change it later which was not the case. Embarrassed by the Apple ID email address which I use as an email address and wish I could change it to something more stronger, less weak.
