In system preference on an M1 MacBook pro, in the apple id icon there is a list of names of trusted devices. One of the devices is the name of the macbook , for example "Macbook XX". I would like to change the name to "Macbook YY". I can't find the answer in the online guide.

I'll keep working on it. In times like this, I go into my "junkyard dog" and never give up. I'll post when I find the answer. I hope it is not a bug, then I'll upgrade to Ventura, but I don't like using a new OS straight off of beta.
On that MacBook, open Sharing System Preferences and change the name.
It does change the share name but the name in the finder menu sidebar remains the same. Let me know if you need more information.
That should be the host name. If it doesn't change, I don't know why it doesn't.
