Apple Pay: Already configured for another disk?

I am attempting to add a card to Apple Pay on a MacBook Pro (Ventura 13.0), and I'm getting the following message:

Apple Pay is already configured on this Mac for another disk.

Only one disk can be used with Apple Pay. Do you want to remove the existing cards on this Mac and add new ones?

"Disk"? I have two MacBooks, a Pro and an Air. Does this message mean that I can only use Apple Pay on one of them?

Or, perhaps is this happening because I wiped the computer and installed a clean version of Ventura (I used Recovery to erase/reinstall without doing a complete reset first)?

Okay... chose to reset, then set up the Apple Pay on the 1st MacBook; then also successfully set up the 2nd MacBook with Apple Pay as well.

Theory: back in the day, Apple authorized up to 5 devices to play iTunes content. I believe they did this by storing device serial numbers associated with a given Apple ID. I'm suspecting they do something similar now for Apple Pay - meaning two IDs can't both use the same computer for Apple Pay.

If correct, I'm sure that would be frustrating for spouses, say, who share a computer, but have different iPhones and Apple Pay details.

Anyway, having the same Apple ID/Apple Pay details on two different computers worked fine, which is what I was trying to do.
