How to factory reset macbook air

I’ve just purchased a MacBook Air and I’ve been locked out from im trying to factory reset it so I can start fresh any idea how to do this? It’s not recognising my password or Apple ID

If this is a used Mac return it to the seller. It has not been properly prepared for sale.

At the Moment the user has a niece paperweight until the Original Owner does what should have been done before you took ownership
