Free downloads

Why ask for payment information for free downloads. It has never been required in the past.

Hello,

Some apps require a payment method to be on file even tho the initial download is free. This is most common with apps that offer subscriptions or in-app purchases.

If you can’t download or update apps on your iPhone or iPad - Apple Support

"Add a payment method

You might need to have a valid payment method on file, even if the app that you want to download is free."
