Remove inspector (right side bar) on pages launch

Is there a way to not show the inspector (right side bar) on launch? Whenever I launch pages I find myself using cmd+option+i every time just to close the inspector so I can start writing without any distractions. This although functional is quite tedious to have to do every time.

If you toggle the Inspector panel off before you close the document, the next time you open the same document the Inspector will be hidden. Otherwise, revealing the Inspector on new documents is a default behavior by Pages that you cannot alter.

You can save a blank document with the Inspector panel hidden as a Template and when Pages opens that template, the Inspector will be automatically enabled.

Tested: macOS Ventura 13.0.1, Pages v12.2

I see. Well I was hoping that it would be hidden when making new documents, especially new documents from templates. Since I'm constantly making new documents, more so than returning to old ones, but if it's not possible then it's not.

That does suck though since it should be something that should be optional to hide on startup / load up from template. I mean how many people start formatting their document the second they open it? Especially if you set up templates as I have, and use keyboard shortcuts for many of the frequent formats.

Hi reece,

Your audience here is composed of users of the Apple hardware and software discussed in these User to User communities. Apple participation here is limited to monitors and hosts whose main concern is adherence to the terms of use agreed to when we first logged in and opened an account here, and to Community Specialists, who monitor for posted questions that have had no response within a reasonable time period, and supply one which usually consists of a link to one or more knowledge base articles that could be of use.

Apple leadership and product development teams do not participate in these discussions.

Yours is a reasonable suggestion. I would suggest going to the Pages menu, choosing Provide Pages Feedback, and submitting a request that this feature be added to Pages. Be aware that 1. You will be asked to review, and agree to Apple's unsolicited features suggestion policy, and 2. You are unlikely to get a direct reply from Apple unless the person/people reading your suggestion need information expanded from that in your suggestion.

Regards,

Barry
