Samsung printer not compatible

I have a Samsung C460FW printer that is not compatible with Mac Ventura. Which printer brands stay up to date with the IOS releases?

Hi,

The Samsung C460FW is not mentioned in the (US edition, October 26, 2022) About AirPrint - Apple Support. However, an HP Xpress C460FW was listed in the July 01, 2022 US edition of the same article. The reason for the change is unknown to me, but it is reasonable to assume that this is an AirPrint-enabled model (albeit, possibly, an early version). So, you may want to try to reset the printing system (Reset the printing system on your Mac to solve a problem – Apple Support (UK)) and then just re-add (Add a printer to your printer list so you can use it on Mac – Apple Support (UK)) the C460FW as an AirPrint printer.

The driverless AirPrint technology requires that the printer is connected to the same network (Wi-Fi router) as the Mac computer. AirPrint works with wireless (Wi-Fi) or wired (Ethernet) network connections. Since this printer model has Ethernet, you could wire it to one of the LAN ports of the Wi-Fi router, instead of using a wireless connection.

If necessary, if AirPrint does not work as intended, you could perhaps try a generic PCL printer driver.

If that also does not work, another discussion Samsung ML-1860 and latest MacOS could perhaps be of interest to you. The workaround described by Matti Haveri in the discussion (about another model) is intended to eliminate a problem with a downloaded package not opening/installing under the latest operating system versions. Perhaps worth a try. Under Samsung Printer Drivers v2.6 for OS X, the article Printer and scanner drivers for Mac - Apple Support lists a Samsung C460 Series version 1.02.01 driver. This would be experimental.

Before testing anything, make sure that you have backup copies of all important files. Software conflicts cannot be ruled out.

Thanks. That's what we thought, but the printer spews out garbage pages (multiple pages with odd symbols at the top of the page) when printing from a Mac with Ventura. Print fine from the Mac with Monterey The suppliers say it's because the drivers are not up to date, and there is nothing they can do to fix it.

Any advice on how to get rid of the garbage pages?

The last driver release from HP for the Samsung SL-C460FW was in early 2021 for macOS Big Sur. HP does not list macOS Monterey (12.*), or Ventura (13.*) as supported. This device is not supported in Apple's AirPrint listing either.

Of course, HP is still releasing drivers in 2022 for Windows 10 and 11 for this device, so if you have either Windows operating system installed on your local network, you could access that Windows hosted C460FW from macOS.

Otherwise, it is a paperweight… on Monterey and Ventura.
