IPad not working

My iPad went completely black. Tried everything and can’t get it to come on. Can the battery in an iPad be replaced?

If your iPad is unresponsive, connect your iPad to its Power Adapter and allow the iPad to charge undisturbed for at least an hour - preferably overnight. Then, while still connected to external power, try a forced-restart:

Force restart iPad (models with Face ID or with Touch ID in the top button)

If your iPad doesn’t have the Home button, do the following:

  1. Press and quickly release the volume button nearest to the top button.
  2. Press and quickly release the volume button farthest from the top button.
  3. Press and hold the top button.
  4. When the Apple logo appears, release the top button.

Force restart iPad (models with the Home button)

Press and hold the top button and the Home button at the same time. When the Apple logo appears, release both buttons.

If iPad still doesn’t turn on, or if it gets stuck during start up, see the Apple Support article If your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch won’t turn on or is frozen. Or if your iPad isn’t working correctly after you restart it, see the iPad Support website.

If you continue to experience difficulties, you will need to seek assistance directly from from Apple Support. You can contact the Support Team using the Support link at top-right or bottom-left of this page. Alternatively, if you have access to another Apple device, you can initiate and manage your support cases using the excellent Apple Support App. If not already installed, the App can be downloaded from the App Store:

You might also visit the Genius Bar at your local Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider (AASP) - where the technicians will be able to test and assess your iPad:

What year and model iPad?

Also, what iOS/iPadOS is this iPad, currently, runnimg?

Have you tried plugging your iPad power then,

For iPad models with a Home button, do a simple hard reset/forced restart of your iPad by holding down both the Home and sleep/wake/power button simultaneously until your iPad goes to black and restarts with Apple logo, then release the buttons.

OR

For much newer design iPad models, without a Home button, try the new simple hard reset/forced restart procedure for the new 2018-2022 iPad Pros, 2020/21 iPad Air 4 and 5, the 2021 iPad Mini 6 models and the new 2022,,10th gen base models,

1. Press and release the volume button closest to the top Power button

2. Then immediately press and release the volume button farthest from the top Power button.

3. Then, press and hold the top single sleep/wake/power button You will see the Slide to Power off button, but keep on holding down the power button until you see the Apple logo, then let it go.

Once you have performed all the steps, wait for a few seconds and your 2018-2022 iPad will boot up completely to the iPad’s Lock screen.

If no success,

Try other known good, compatible power/charging cables and/or other known good 18 or 20W power/charging adapter blocks to test for current cable and/or power/charging block failures.

Power/charge cables and/or power/charge adapter blocks can AND DO fail at any time for any reason.

If no spare power/charging cables or power/charging adapter blocks or NO joy on getting this iPad charging, you can purchase new cables and power/charging blocks from your nearest, “local” Apple Store location or from Apple's own Website.

OR

Purchase new, third party Apple MFi ( Made for iOS devices ) certified power/charging cable and adapter block, from online retail, mobile device sellers, to test with, in order to determine that your existing power/charging cables and adapter block is bad/faulty.

OR, if no success with brand new power/charging cables and/or power/charging adapter blocks,

You may need to use the “Support” link, in the top black menu bar, at the top far upper right hand corner of every Apple Support Community Webpage, and make an appointment for your nearest, local Apple Store and bring your iPad and charging cable and adapter block, to the appointment, for Apple employees to test/diagnose and options presented to you.

Apple stores, generally, DO NOT repair iPads, but ONLY offer in/out-of-warranty device replacement.

If your iPad isn't too old and Apple employees determine that your iPad has a bad battery, a device replacement, in lieu of an actual device teardown and battery replacement, will cost $99 U.S.D., plus tax.

Sorry & Best of Luck to You!
