Migrate to new MacBook

I have a mid 2012 macbook pro running Catalina 10.15.7 I have purchased a new macbook pro with M1 pro chip. The old macbook does not have migration assistant. What is the best way to transfer all my files to the new macbook?

Hi,

1) Create TimeMachine back up of old MacBook Pro on external drive.

2) Run Migrate Assistant on new MacBook Pro.

3) Select migration data source to TimeMachine external drive.

4) Start migration.
