When I installed iOS 16, I understood that it would recognize iTunes 12.8 (El Capitan) and later. My phone is recognized by Photos 2.0, but not iTunes 12.8.2.3 — that version of iTunes alerted me to the release of iOS 16 and recognized it was installed. But, now I can't sync or retrieve my backups. Have I been orphaned without notice?

I spent a couple of hours on the phone last week and uploaded logs and other stuff to the engineers. An update to Sierra just appeared in the App Store addressing syncing issues with iPhones and other devices. iTunes 12.8.2.3 is now syncing with my phone and backing it up.

Well, I tried everything without success. I reported it as a bug a week ago. Yesterday, I updated to iOS 16.2 and when I connected the phone, iTunes started up and I got a message that iTunes didn't "recognize the value of the phone." So, I think that's an improvement. Any thoughts about what to do now?

I am having the same issue. I just purchased a new iphone 13 and it said that it would work with el capitan and itunes, and it works with photos and image capture, so the computer can see the phone. It's just not showing in itunes no matter what I do. I've followed all the suggestions in the thread that was posted in the comment above and it did not work.
