I bought a used apple watch series 3 some time back. From what I have gathered is the original owners have it locked to find my phone and it won't work

Have there been any breakthroughs in bypassing the apple watch problem? I bought it used 11/2 to 2 years ago. check to see if anyone has figured out a way? Thank you
