If its a nicer TV, it could be cables -- HDMI cables require a bit of black magic:
HDMI cables you want for HDMI-only Displays (higher resolutions than 720p TV sets) are marked as Certified with an anti-counterfeiting tag and are labeled:
"Premium High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "with Ethernet" --OR--
"Ultra High Speed HDMI cable" or that + "48G"
Cables with No Certification tags are good for your standard 720p TV set, and not much more.

I figured out that it's not a problem with the cables or the MacBook pro M1 but it's the Hisense tv which is the problem because I hooked it up to an old Samsung tv and everything works. Weird though because the Hisense tv's HDMI ports work fine with Google home devices.
what model-year MacBook Pro, and what processor?
what version MacOS?
what cables, adapters, and docks are being used? please mention every device.
