Pairing a stand alone Apple Watch with a new iPhone.

My son has a stand alone Apple Watch with cellular. He is getting a new iPhone for Christmas with a new number (much cheaper to add a line when getting a new phone). Can he pair his existing stand alone watch with an iPhone that has a different number? Or would he need a new Apple Watch to work with the new phone?

The Watch must be paired to an iPhone and managed by it - probably yours? It cannot be truly "Standalone". No Watch can be set up without an iPhone to set it up.

Un-pair it from the managing iphone and he will have the choice to also remove the cellular plan.

Then pair to his new iphone.

Or follow the instructions in "If you don't have your old iPhone" here...
