Macbook Air with M2 chip

I just purchased the Macbook Air with the M2 chip and need to set it up with 2 external independent monitors. What do I need to support this? I purchased a Belkin docking station and have connected the 2 external monitors to the HDMI port via an HDMI splitter. Monitors are on and working but on one external monitor is actually being identified so they are simply a mirror of each other and I need them to be seperate. Is this possible with a different set?

Thanks to all for your help.

The M2 Mac only supports 1 external display.

Connect a display to your Mac - Apple Support

If you're using a Mac with the M1 or M2 chip:

  • On MacBook Air, 13-inch MacBook Pro, iMac, and Mac mini, you can connect one external display using either of the Thunderbolt / USB 4 ports.
  • On iMac, connect your display to either of the ports with the Thunderbolt symbol .
  • On Mac mini, you can connect a second display to the HDMI port.
  • Using docks or daisy-chaining devices doesn't increase the number of displays you can connect.

Many thanks. Surprising that Windows supports this feature and Apple, by choice, decides that you only need one screen in todays world.

No. You chose to buy a computer that only supports one external display. There are several Apple computer models that support more than a single external display.
