Using AOL Mail with Apple Mail

My wife uses AOL Mail. Apple mail is set to not open upon startup. Without warning, Apple Mail will open on its' own. Apple mail mirrors the amount of mail in AOL's Inbox, Spam, Deleted and Unread mailboxes. Is there anyway to keep Apple mail quiet and keep it from opening at will? Thanks, Fredymac

Firstly, when the computer is shutdown to OFF - was the Mail application still active and loaded ?

If yes - was the tick box Ticked in below image ?

If yes, this would Open any Open Application on the next ON Start up and effectively load the Mail Application

If this is Not what has happened, check in System Preferences >> Login Items of the User Account the computer has been logged into.

See of Mail is set to Start up when the computer is first started from a cold boot

If it IS set to startup - you need to Remove the item via the Padlock in lower Left with Computer Password and use the Minus ( - ) to remove Mail
