CarPlay not reading WhatsApp messages

My new iPhone 14 pro stopped reading messages from WhatsApp with the vague response that it had trouble reading the message and to try again later strange but no matter when I tried latter same response and over the weeks it became standard Siri would not read or write messages in WhatsApp. Anyone had similar?

Ok I’ve resolved and I suppose the blame is with me! 😟

After receiving my new iPhone and configuring settings for WhatsApp I set the use screen lock under privacy to require Face ID after a preset time which I’d not noticed before but seemed a good idea as no impact to me….. or so I thought! 😳

It turns out with this turned on and outside the preset time Siri cannot access WhatsApp to send or read messages and the error message provided does not convey the underlying issue.

Hope this helps others and thanks for the responses.

Hey there Bajantaff007,

Thanks for reaching out to Apple Support Communities. We're happy to provide some assistance.

Does this only occur with WhatsApp? If so, the actions in this article may help resolve app-specific issues:

If an app on your iPhone or iPad stops responding, closes unexpectedly, or won’t open

"Close and reopen the app

Force the app to close. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Restart your device

Restart your iPhone or restart your iPad. Then open the app to see if it works as expected.

Check for updates

To see if updates are available for the app, open the App Store, tap your profile icon, then scroll down to see if updates are available. If updates aren't available for the app, update the software on your iPhone or iPad.

Delete the app, then redownload it

Delete the app. When you do this, you might lose data that was stored in the app. Then redownload the app. Then check to see if the problem with the app is fixed."

If the issue persists, contact the app developer to investigate:

Hello Bajantaff007,

Knowing the issue only occurs with WhatsApp greatly helps with isolating the issue and the next steps for reaching a resolution. With having completed the previously recommended steps, the next step would be to contact the app developer. They'll be able to assist with additional troubleshooting steps to help work towards a resolution. The last article linked above outlines the steps for location the app developers contact information. You can also find these steps listed below.

"Contact the developer of an iOS, iPadOS, or watchOS app

  1. Open the App Store on your iPhone or iPad.
  2. Search for the app, then tap it. If you can't find it, tap the account button  or your photo at the top of the screen, tap Purchased, tap "Not on this [device]," then tap the app.
  3. The app's product page appears. Scroll to the Ratings & Reviews section, then tap App Support. If you don't see App Support, make sure that you're signed in with the correct Apple ID."
