Emails not deleting on my other devices

Hi, until recently, if I delete an email on one of my devices, it would automatically delete on all my other devices, which is what should happen, I think. Now that doesn’t happen

is it simply a matter of a setting?

Your email is synchronised between devices via your email providers email server - and not directly between devices.

Are all of your devices configured to use IMAP or POP3 mail server settings? You may need to check your settings with your email provider; you’ll often find that this information is provided in a technical support document.

Very often, the easiest method of resolving an email account or synchronisation issue is to delete and re-add the associated mail account on the device that is experiencing unexpected behaviour.

After deleting the account, perform a forced restart before re-adding the email account to your iPad.

  • Delete account:

Settings > Mail > Accounts > [Your Mail Account] > Delete Account

  • Force restart the iPad:

  • Add Mail Account:

Settings > Mail > Add Account

Also be aware that some email providers now require the use of App Specific Passwords when accessing mail over IMAP or POP3. If this applies to your email account, you will need to generate a unique password for your iPad email account - that will differ from your normal Account Password. As examples - AOL, Yahoo, Google, Microsoft all use App Specific Passwords when using anything other than their own email client Apps.

If you need to generate an App Specific Password, you’ll need to log-in to your Mail Providers account management webpage - using a web browser - and generate the Password from the appropriate account security page.
