MacBook not reading keyboard at login

Hello, this has never happened before, rebooted my MacBook, login comes up and the keyboard is disabled. The only key that works is the shutdown key. Any ideas? Thanks

Hello at7000ft,

Thank you for contributing to the Apple Support Communities.

Please try starting your Mac in safe mode. This will disable any third party startup software that could be disabling the keyboard now: Start up your Mac in safe mode. If the keyboard works normally in safe mode, restart your MacBook again to test.

If the issue persists in safe mode, please use the following troubleshooting steps to isolate the issue: If your Mac doesn’t respond to key presses. According to the article above, you will want to try these steps in order:

  1. Try connecting a different external keyboard (with a cable or Bluetooth).
  2. Fully charge your MacBook.
  3. Check the macOS Accessibility and Keyboard settings to be sure the Slow Keys, Mouse Keys and Input Sources are set as you would expect.

If you continue to notice that the built-in keyboard on your MacBook is not working as expected, you may consider contacting Apple Support directly to find out about any repair options that may be available.

Cheers!
