my Mac is crashing a lot, what can I do?

My Mac has started crashing a lot, all updates have been made, what can I do to try and stop it from crashing?

iMac 27″, macOS 10.12

What do you mean by crashing? Is it kernel panics where it restarts and you get a message that a problem occurred? If so, start up in safe mode, and see if you still get the panics.

if it doesn’t panic in safe mode, then you have a third-party system modification installed, causing the problem.
