running venture will not accept password at login screen

Brand new MacBookPro 16" running Ventura 13.1 would not accept my password at startup today. Multiple attempts did not get me into the computer. I've never had this happen on any MacBook before now. I'm stuck!

MacBook Pro 16″, macOS 13.1
