High CPU Utilization on Windows 11

I enabled iCloud Photos on my PC about 2 weeks ago given the (purported) linkage of iCloud photos into the windows photo app.

My photos are actually showing up in the app, but iCloud is continuously eating up CPU time and churning the hard disk. I would have figured this would eventually stop once everything is downloaded, but I guess not as its been going like this for ~2 weeks.

Is anyone else seeing this, and does anyone have a solution? Particularly from Apple?

Hello gsanders21,

Try restarting your computer to see if it helps resolve this issue. If the issue persists, try signing out of iCloud for Windows, restart the PC and sign back in. This can help resolve issues like the one you're having. This article also has additional steps to help you:

Sign out of or uninstall iCloud for Windows
If you no longer want to use iCloud for Windows on your PC, you can sign out or uninstall the app.
You can also turn off any individual feature. See Set up iCloud for Windows on your PC.
Note: Before signing out of or uninstalling iCloud for Windows, you may want to make a copy of your iCloud data and save it on your PC. The information on your PC won’t automatically stay up to date in iCloud, and you won’t see updates made on your other devices.

Sign out of iCloud for Windows
When you sign out of iCloud for Windows, the information you store in iCloud is removed from your PC. You can still access it on your other devices and on iCloud.com. See Where else can you access the data you store in iCloud?
1. On your Windows computer, open iCloud for Windows.
2. Click “Sign out,” then follow the onscreen instructions.
If you decide you want to access information stored in iCloud on your PC, you can sign in again.
Uninstall iCloud for Windows if you have Windows 11
1. On your Windows computer, sign out of iCloud for Windows.
2. Choose Start menu > Settings > Apps > Apps & features.
3. Locate iCloud, click the More button, choose Uninstall, then follow the onscreen instructions.

Best Regards.
