Look at LG's other offerings. You can get 4K 27" displays for less money.

I have an LG 27UP600 and it works great. In their numbering scheme:

The first two numbers are display size

The second letter is display "type":

G or Q - 2K or QHD

U - 4K or UHD

M - 1080 of FHD

W - wide screen

The second letter is the year of initial release (LG still makes some of their older models) and I believe "Q" is now the current model

The last three numbers indicate feature level . Generally 600 is base, 650 adds a few things, and 850 has all the bells and whistles.

never had a monitor not work both as second monitor for imacs nor as monitors for mac minis

currently i have my 2012 mac mini connected to an asus 27" using a thunderbolt to dvi and to a very old 17" samsung using a hdmi to dvi

used dell 24" too in the past

+1 for LG recommendation. My LG 32UN800-B UltraFine 4K with Ergo stand is still selling for $699USD, but there are same size displays or smaller for less money at https://www.lg.com/us/4k-monitors .

Just to add, do some shopping around as the LG displays will occasionally get some good discounts.
