Two Thunderbolt 3 (USB-C) port on rear of iMac 27" (2019)

I have the above ports on the rear of my Mac. May I ask if thy can be used for an external backup drive using Time Machine? Also have 4 USB slots but they are already spoken for with a scanner etc and thought these ports could be an alternative.

Depending on the trip of drive and it's connectivity capability you may need a USB C (Thunderbolt) to USB A adaptor:



Apple has them as do some 3rd party vendors like Amazon.
