Ventura 13.2 log and email issue

I have updated my iMac (4.2 GHz i7 27" 2017) to Ventura 13.2. Since the update I started noticing that the launchd logs were growing at a very fast rate. I have attached a portion of the logs for inspection. It seems that a process is attempting to start, but there is not process to handle this. I have attempted to isolate the cause and suspect it has something to do with users and user id's. Here is a portion of the log - you can see from the timestamps that this is an incessant issue. Does anyone have any ideas on this? Please let me know if I can provide more information, I will gladly do so.

launchd log is attached as additional text.

Another issue that is new: the Mail program keeps crashing! It starts up and I can read emails, but when I attempt to delete emails from the "All Trash" folder, clicking on "All Trash: will cause the program to crash. It is sending the reports to Apple, hopefully a response is forthcoming.

Any ideas would be appreciated ... I think both of these issues could be related to user id's and security by the way to logs look.

Thank you in advance.

Hi jterry,

Thanks for coming to Apple Support Communities for help today.

Since we can't interpret the launch logs you have included here, let's focus on the Mail app.

Does this issue with Mail happen in safe mode? This can clear cache and prevent interference from third-party apps. Here's how to start in safe mode: How to use safe mode on your Mac.

"Intel processor

  1. Turn on or restart your Mac, then immediately press and hold the Shift key as your Mac starts up.
  2. Release the key when you see the login window, then log in to your Mac.
  3. You might be asked to log in again. On either the first or second login window, you should see ”Safe Boot” in the upper-right corner of the window."

Let us know what happens in safe mode and when you boot up normally again.

Have a fantastic day!

Hey jterry,

We're great that resolved the mail issue! Thanks for keeping us updated with the results.

For your login activity, let's try these steps below to see if it helps:

Remove login items to resolve startup problems on your Mac

1. On your Mac, choose Apple menu  > System Settings, click General  in the sidebar, then click Login Items on the right. (You may need to scroll down.)

2. Make a list of the login items in the Open at Login list—you’ll need to remember them later.
3. Select all of the login items, then click the Remove button .
4. Choose Apple menu  > Restart.

5. If this solves the problem, open Login Items settings again, add the login items one at a time, and restart your Mac after adding each one.

When the problem occurs again, follow the steps above to remove only the last login item you added.

If the issue persists, we recommend that you get in touch with Apple Support team next: Contact Apple for support and service

Cheers!

I shut down the machine and rebooted into Safe Mode -- was unable to "crash" mail Yay!

I then rebooted machine in "normal" mode, started up email and was unable to cause it to crash. Apparently the issue has disappeared!

I am still getting all sorts of login activity in the launchd.log. It is amounting to about 4-5 megabytes per hour. Most of the information is regarding a process that can't start because of a bad getpwuid entry. It appears that the UID is coming from some sort of cloud interaction during the boot up. If there is a way to get the logs to you, please let me know. I would surely like to solve this one.

Thank you very much for your help on the email -- !!!

Have a great rest of your day.

I turned off all the login items and restarted. No issues with mail, but I am still having an issue with a process which starts up and just keeps trying to do something -- what I don't know. Have looked everywhere I could think of to see what is happening, but I am at a loss. Here are a few lines where the process starts from the launchd.log:

I really don't know what to do -- the process was originally being kicked off by a user that had been added to appease Microsoft, I deleted the use and it did get rid of one of the statue processes in /var/log/db/com.apple.xpc.launchd -- after the restart, got this log in launchd.log. Don't really have any idea where this user thing is coming from.

Thanks for your help, if anyone has any ideas I am sure open for suggestions ! Thanks again for the help, it is appreciated.

Hello,

I have the exact same problem in my launchd.log with Ventura 13.2 clean install (MacBook Pro 2019 16").

This problem seems to appear even after a fresh install (without anything installed) when you login to iCloud and reboot the Mac. After that, the error in the log are present.

I have already opened a case : FB11974985
