Help with downloading older version of Pages 8.1

Hi, thanks for previous advice here on downloading an older version of Pages for a Mac using High Sierra 10.13. I duly signed into App store, held the option key down as advised while opening purchased apps tab. Held option key again while clicking on Pages and was offered the following message:

"The current version requires macOS 12.0 or later, but you can download the last compatible version". However on clicking 'continue', all that happens is a never ending cycle of spinning wheels and the message reappears; click again, more spinning wheels and the message reappears. Has anyone any ideas on how to break the cycle or perhaps an alternative safe source to download from? Sick of writing a document on a far more recent ipad then unable to open/edit on Mac....

If you have a version of Pages on High Sierra that is older than the minimum version (7.3) required for that operating system, then the last compatible installation will fail. It needs to be between Pages v7.3 or newer and older than v8.1 to achieve a last compatible installation.

Quit the Mac App Store, Move the version of Pages in your /Applications folder to the Trash, and empty the Trash. Reboot your Mac, and then try the same approach you used earlier and see if you can get Pages v8.1 installed.
