Stuck in headphone mode

my iPad is stuck in headphone mode. I’ve tried turning it off and on, switching airplane mode off and on, doing a hard reset, installing the latest iOS and finally erasing the settings with a factory reset. All to no avail. If I plug headphones in I can hear the sound, but without the headphones I can’t hear anything.

any thoughts from the collective mind?

You can try inserting and removing the headphones several times. See if that releases it. If it doesn’t work, that’s almost always a broken/damaged headphone jack.

That would be a hardware problem.
