Hi, I have an old iMac (2009) that I want to erase before I give it away. The operating system is OS X Yosemite. All the instructions I can find refer to OS Monterey, but I can't download Monterey to this Mac because it says it's too old.

Click here and follow the instructions. Instead of step 8, insert a compatible Mac OS X install DVD, restart with the C or Option key held down, use the Disk Utility to erase the internal drive, and install a fresh OS.
