Hey!

If your Mac is running slowly, there are several things you can try to speed it up:

  1. Check for available storage space: If your Mac's hard drive is almost full, it can significantly slow down your system. Delete any unnecessary files, uninstall apps you don't use, and empty the trash.
  2. Close unused applications: Running too many applications at once can slow down your Mac. Close any unused apps to free up memory and CPU resources.
  3. Restart your Mac: Sometimes, a simple restart can solve many issues, including a slow-running Mac.
  4. Check for software updates: Apple regularly releases updates that can help improve performance and fix bugs. Check for any available updates and install them.
  5. Disable startup items: Some apps and services may automatically start up when you turn on your Mac, which can slow down the system. Disable any startup items you don't need.
  6. Remove unnecessary browser extensions: Browser extensions can also slow down your Mac. Remove any extensions you don't use or need.

Hope my tips helps!

First: Don't install anything claiming to speed it up. Those things are all scams that will ruin your day.

Next: Please determine if your Mac performs just as slowly in "Safe Mode": How to use safe mode on your Mac - Apple Support.

A Mac is not particularly pleasant to use in that mode. Most of that unpleasantness is due to clunky graphics rendering, but its overall performance should not be slow. If it is just as slow in that mode, hardware failure is the usual cause. Most of the time the root cause is a startup hard disk drive operating in a state of failure, and (again) most of the time that failure is age-related. They cannot be repaired but they can be replaced.
