Track pad error on MacBookPro and Ventura

3 remote diagnostics by Apple Support on a 2023.01 delivered Refurbished M1 Pro 2021 MacBookPro 14" (Ventura 13.2.1) all identified 'track pad error'.

I'm told to deliver the machine to an Apple Authorized dealer (re-seller) for 'more diagnosis'. Community views much appreciated if:

  • a new track pad is the likely remedy or
  • this is an unresolved problem problem waiting on a future software update?
  • other?

Many thanks.

The Apple Diagnostics operate outside of macOS. If the diagnostic is reporting a problem, then you most likely have a hardware issue of some sort.

Make sure to have a good backup. The issue is most likely with the Trackpad, but there is always a change the Logic Board could be at fault. The SSD is integrated into the Logic Board so you lose all data which has not been backed up if the Logic Board is replaced (or the SSD erased during the repair).
