Re-accessing old iTunes account

[Haven't been able to see an answer before the responses age off the end of the list. Please bear with me it shouldn't happen again]

After puchasing another computer, I failed to get iTunes login info to access all my downloaded music. Is there any way Apple could get me back into the old account without knowing the username/password. Also the old password is an e-mail address that's no longer valid.
