Why is my device allowing me to sign I without entering or generating a codec- 2 factor authentication is on.

I was able to log into my iphone without a 2 factor auth code. All my devices require a code sent from apple to log in-- atleast thats how all of my devices have acted for 5 years, when logging out and backbin from appke id.
What device and sign into exactly what?
Without more information, only speculation is possible such as it may have to do with the fact that it is a trusted device.
