If you see an exclamation mark next to the iMessage app on your iPhone, it means that there is an issue with iMessage and it is not working properly. Here are a few reasons why this could happen:

  1. No internet connection: iMessage requires an active internet connection to send and receive messages. If your iPhone is not connected to Wi-Fi or mobile data, iMessage will not work properly.
  2. Apple server outage: Sometimes, Apple's servers can experience issues, which can cause iMessage to stop working. You can check Apple's System Status page to see if there are any ongoing issues with iMessage.
  3. Outdated software: If you are running an outdated version of iOS, it can cause iMessage to stop working properly. Make sure that you have the latest version of iOS installed on your iPhone.
  4. Apple ID issues: If there are issues with your Apple ID, it can cause iMessage to stop working. Make sure that your Apple ID is signed in properly and that you have the correct settings enabled.

If none of the above solutions work, you can try resetting your iPhone's network settings. Go to Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings. This will reset all network settings, including Wi-Fi and mobile data, to their default values.

If the issue still persists, you can Contact Apple for support and service - Apple Support (IN) or visit an Apple Store for further assistance.

Probably your device is not connected to the internet

Check your WiFi Router / Modem for --> Recommended settings for Wi-Fi routers and access points ...

Connecting to Wifi is the first part and then getting connected to the Internet is the second

  1. If you connect to Wifi, doesn't necessarily mean you are connected to the internet. If you are not connected to wifi could be a problem with iPhone settings or Router/Modem Settings
  2. If you are not connected to the internet is the sole issue of Router / Modem Settings. Contact your ISP immediately

For your Internet connection.

  • Over Cellular: contact your Carrier (Cellular Service Provider). The agency who issued the SIM to you
  • Over WiFI: Contact your ISP (Internet Service Provider), the agency who provided the Internet Service on your Modem/Router to you

However --> Connect iPhone to the Internet - Apple Support

This can definitely be a result of not being signed in to iMessage. But I wonder if you have any messages that didn’t go through when you tried to send them? In that case you should see a “not sent” notification over the conversation. (Sometimes this happens to me when trying to force my phone to use iMessage to contact someone with an Android phone - it means I turned off, and forgot to turn back on, “send as SMS” in Settings for when iMessage is not available.) In your case, if you see this message telling you that your text was not delivered, try tapping it and clicking “try again”. If it still doesn’t work, and you’re desperate to get rid of that annoying exclamation mark, delete the conversation containing the text that won’t go through. This will get rid of that mark.

Hope this helps.
