Why won't my iMac M1, 2021 model recognize my Apple USB Superdrive (bought in 2015, which worked great with my Mac mini purchased at that time). I know the drive is working, but my iMac doesn't seem to recognize it. Many thanks for any help!
Start with the USB-3 ports as that will leave the Thunderbolt ports available for devices that can actually take advantage of their speed and throughput. Honestly, though, I really don't think it makes a difference.

The CD/DVD drive has a USB-A connector. There are 2 USB-3 ports and 2 Thunderbolt/USB-4 ports on my iMac. Do you know which port I should use? Does it matter? Thanks in advance--I love people's willingness to help.

Often, only Apple-branded USB-C adapters work. They are listed in this Apple article:
How to connect the Apple USB SuperDrive - Apple Support
Ensure that the Super Drive is plugged directly into the Mac and not through a hub or dock.
If using a USB-C adapter, try turning it 180º when plugging it in, it might make a difference.
