You can't sign in to this app because it doesn't comply with Google's OAuth 2.0 policy for keeping apps secure.

You can let the app developer know that this app doesn't comply with one or more Google validation rules."

You really need to reach out to Google on this. The error message clearly is not from Apple, and only Google can give you an official answer regarding their policies, We, as other end users, can suggest but cannot give official answers on any company's behalf.

As built-in apps in macOS grow older, more and more developers will be dropping support. As Sierra 10.12 is pretty much abandoned by many third-party apps, High Sierra is next. Maybe Google is already there.

A perspective view of where your OS is today:

Newest> Ventura ---- Monterey ---- Big Sur ---- Catalina ---- Mojave ---- High Sierra < Oldest

Apple only supports the first three in that ranking.

If Google have truly abandoned Apple Mail support for High Sierra, then you are left with four options, none great:

  • Find a third-part Mail client that Goggles supports under High Sierra (they will have to tell you what they support)†
  • Use a supported browser like you are now doing.
  • Change your email address to another less abandonment-prone service. Mrs AJ still can use Apple Mail in High Sierra with an icloud.com address.
  • Replace the 2010 model.

† — The latest version of Thunderbird still supports as far back as macOS 10.12: Thunderbird sysreqs

Try a New App Password:

Try creating a new App Password. Your App Password may need to resync - something typical after update installations. You would log in using that password, rather than your Gmail password. See if it then works.

For Example: Sign in with App Passwords - Google Account Help - Google

Mac's Mail App is not as modern as iOS's Mail app, Many eMail providers now require a separate App Password different from your eMail password…

If it's an IMAP account, delete it in Sys Prefs Internet Accounts then use "Other" instead of gMail choice to add it.

Most likely biggest factor is using Other in Mail setup, then using a Browser that doesn’t have gMail PW stored init to get the App PW.

I also spent hours trying to solve this issue until I followed this video... It worked and my Gmail accounts are back on Mac Mail.

Give it a shot and good luck! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0WPw2TsTAY

Thanks for your response.

I appreciate your help....but haven't made any progress.

I don't understand why I can log into gmail through google.com using this computer, but I can't log in to the MAIL logo as I've always done.

When I try to login using MAIL and look at the inbox there is a symbol like ~

What does that mean?

(I'm having a senior moment every time I try. )
