a mini document icon is in bottom l/h corner of screen and try as I must I cannot do anything with it nor know just why it is there - anyone know why please?

Thank you very much BDAqua, your reply has removed the artefact for me.
I needed to do it twice though, as did not get safe boot first try, because I went for 'shift'/restart.
Second try I shut down and went for start/'shift'.
Much appreciated and great community

Start with this...
Safe Boot, (holding Shift key down at startup), does the problem occur in Safe Mode? Could take 10 minutes or more.
Safe mode attempts to repair Disks & clears lots of caches & loads safe Drivers, & prevents loading of 3rd party extensions, so if Safe Mode works try again in regular boot.
