iphoto synchronization lagging

I experience the same issue when trying to sync photos between my Powerbook and iPhone. So I tried a factory reset and after that syncing photos between the 2 devices was speedy; then later syncing slowed tremendously.

These are the few options I have tried:

1. Factory reset
2. Selecting a few albums and not all to see if syncing speeds up, it did for a few minutes then lagging like before
3. Remove all photos from iPhone, wait for the process to complete and then try again to sync

None of the above have worked for me, I am as confused as before. I hope you can solve this problem and if you find a solution please do share. Thanks.

I'm hoping that you are referring to the Photos app rather than iPhoto, which was last released in 2015! There are still iPhoto Libraries around. And you say that you are using macOS 13.3 Ventura, is that right?

Lots of things seem to affect the synchronization speed. MacBooks may take awhile because Photos doesn't want to interfere with your work or with your battery life. So for seedy syncing, the MacBook needs to be plugged in, connected to quality wifi or ethernet, and be powered up but with Photos running and in the background. If Photos is the active app, then it thinks you're editing pictures and such, and it won't interrupt your work for download. So we usually leave the computer on overnight, with Photos open but with another app, like Finder, in front. This can help with iPhones and iPads as well.

But then, it sometimes just seems to be slow! If I'm in a hurry for a picture for something, like for here, I use airdrop.

I have the latest version of Mac OS running on my MacBook, I am not sure if the version of OS a device is running has anything to do with the speed, maybe though. I have noticed the speed has become slow due to the number of photos contained in the photos app.

Also not sure of the link between photos app and iPhotos library?
